Okay so I haven't blogged in a while and I'm taking my lunch break to blog should speak to my level of frustration with this topic! I do not understand where people come from or why they have to be greedy and ungrateful. In my new job I am Upper management and until we find a new HR person I am reviewing resume's and writing Ad's for job opening, not my area by ANY stretch of the imagination however; some job hunting tips.
READ the Entire Posting (for example don't call and ask how to I apply when you have just shown me you can read and follow directions)
Put in the subject line what job you are applying for (This should be a no brainier but it's not)
Don't call and tell me your life story THEN tell me you do NOT meet the minimum qualification for the job. (Why waste my time and yours?)
Also don't call and ask me if there is ANY was around the minimum qualifications (there is a REASON they say minimum!)
Don't call or email and ask for the salary, this is a questions left for a 2nd interview people!
Don't call and ask about Benefits again this is a question left IF you get called in for an interview.
A job posting is a posting not a magic wand to a interview I posted a job it may be a week or two before interviews calling me everyday is going to just drive me crazy and REALLY do you want someone who has a say in you getting a job or not already disliking you BEFORE the interview.
Don't place your Salary requirements in your resume unless asked, DON'T! Salary requirements are left for Upper management positions or for those who hold higher degrees!! You can't ask 35,000 for a Teachers Assistant job EVEN in DC sorry! I'm going to look at that and laugh more so when you only have a certificate and no college!
Spell check, spell check, Spell Check, Spell Check!!! If you miss spell in your cover letter, odds are you are going to the bottom of the pile!
Last but not least Attach the resume to the email!!!
Thank you for allowing me to vent, now I am going to do my "other" job this afternoon and leave the HR stuff alone before I need a white jacket!!! Love to all, hope everyone found this highly entertaining!!!
